Hari Raya Puasa is coming up and that means we have every excuse to glam up! We consulted our favourite makeup guru, Airin Lee, for tips on how to accentuate our natural beauty this Raya. Influenced by the rose gold accents in Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Coconut Fantasy Collection (read our review on the collection here), we worked with Airin to come up with 3 “rose gold-inspired” makeup looks and 3 hairstyles that will hopefully serve as your beauty-inspo this Hari Raya.

Airin’s first tip is of course, to start prepping your skin 2 weeks before Raya (read our pre-makeup prepping guide here). This will ensure that your makeup looks fresh and amazing throughout the big day, even after many house visits. Here’s what you need to use:

The toner is often skipped in skincare routines but it is just as important as a cleanser or a moisturiser. Why? Because it helps balance your skin’s pH levels. This is important for healthy, glowing skin. Airin recommends Bioderma’s Hydrabio H2O Micellar Water, formulated specially for sensitive skin. It not only balances your skin but also soothes and moisturises, and increases the efficiency of follow-up skin products.

The secret to looking glowy for Raya is to moisturise, moisturise, and moisturise. Our skin is constantly losing water, so it is key to hydrate it with moisturising products that replenish water content. Dior’s Hydra Life Sorbet Cream is an ultra-fresh hydrating moisturiser infused with natural ingredients such as French mallow flower and haberlea leaf. Best suited for all skin types, it is created without parabens and sulfates. Philosophy’s Take a Deep Breath Gel Cream is another alternative. Skin can get dull and stressed from exposure to damaging free radicals, so breathe new life into your skin with this patented blend of antioxidants and anti-pollutants.

Mask three times weekly to keep your skin soft and supple, an easy and quick way to rejuvenate your face in just 15 minutes each time! SKIN INC’s Lines Be-Gone Rose Gold Mask is infused with SKIN INC‘s Vitamin A serum, which is packed with antioxidants and anti-aging natural rose and floral extracts. This mask is deeply nourishing and smooths the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Another mask Airin recommends is innisfree’s It’s Real Squeeze Mask – you can try Rose, Green Tea and Aloe Vera, ideal ingredients to cool your skin in Singapore’s sweltering hot weather.

Never forget sunscreen, because it will help brighten your look and protect your face from UV rays, especially after the many house visits. You can’t go wrong with Japanese sunscreens like SHISEIDO Senka Mineral UV Gel SPF50 PA+++!

On Andrea: Eyeshadow: Marc Jacobs Beauty Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette – Coconut Fantasy | Blusher: Decorte Makeup Cream Blusher in RD450 | Lips: Decorte The Rouge Matte Lipstick in RD452

For this look, Airin gave Andrea a softer look to balance out her bright-coloured ensemble. She went for copper, rose-gold and pink accented eyeshadow. For hair, she did a simple yet stylish knot braided bun. A professional tip from Airin – “Moisturise your lips with lip balm or coconut oil before putting on lipstick as you don’t want your lips cracking!”

[blockquote author=”” pull=”normal”]”Andrea: I usually put on more eye makeup for a more dramatic look (i.e. Cat Eyeliner and Falsies), but I realised heavy eyes can make me look even more tired as I progress throughout the day, so recently I’ve stuck to just gold-accented eyeshadow and natural eyelash extensions to make me look more fresh! As for hair, I usually start the day with curls, but it will just naturally straighten out because of the humidity, so that’s when I will put my hair into a classy low bun.”[/blockquote]

On Shafiqah: Eyeshadow:  Marc Jacobs Beauty Eye-conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette in Fantasy and On The Dance Floor | Lips: Lord & Berry Timeless Kissproof Lipstick in Blossom

For Shafiqah, Airin used Color Me’s Underglow Hydrator Tinted Moisturizer in Tan (030). Airin recommends this foundation for anyone with sensitive skin like Shafiqah. To set the foundation, Airin used Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Finish-Line Perfecting Coconut Setting Powder in 34 on her T-Zone and hairline. And to give her face a more contoured appearance, Airin used Marc Jacobs Beauty’s O!mega Bronze Perfect Tan Bronzer in Tan-Tastic 104. Airin styled Shafiqah’s hair in a ponytail braid and curled her fringe to frame her face.

[blockquote author=”” pull=”normal”]“Pro tip: Avoid black and stick to soft browns to brighten and widen your eyes!”[/blockquote]

On Sharmin: Eyeshadow: Marc Jacobs Beauty Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette | Highlighter: Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter.

Airin used YSL’s Beaute (YSL Beauty) All Hours Foundation in shade BD30 for Sharmin. This is a heavy-duty and power-packed foundation that is great for people who feel like they have a duller complexion. Sharmin has perfectly-shaped natural brows, Airin gave Sharmin’s eyebrows more shape by drawing it in with Pixi Beauty’s Brow Powder Palette. Airin used a shade similar to her natural hair colour to outline the arch. She then used a lighter shade as she filled in the top part of her brows, creating a colour gradient.
