A couple of weeks ago, the DC Team and I headed down to Kuala Lumpur for our very first #DreaChongXKL Meet and Greet session. During the 5-day duration, we had the luxury of staying at the newly renovated Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur.

The 5-star treatment began the moment we landed in KL where we were warmly greeted by the staff of Mandarin Oriental. Our driver kindly offered bottles of mineral water and some light snacks for the 45-minute journey to the hotel—true to the stellar service we’ve grown to expect from the Mandarin Oriental name!

When we reached the entrance of the hotel, I was blown away by the elegantly furnished interior of the lobby, which oozed intimacy thanks to the warm lighting and instrumental music playing in the background. The staff of MO were very kind to show us up to our rooms to which we were so excited about after half a day of travelling.

Shilin and I were so thrilled when we saw a platter of complimentary fruits and flavoured sparkling water laying on the table. Andrea even received a plate full of specially crafted chocolates and macaroons in her room.

Our deluxe room was sleek and spacious, with an overall silver and grey aesthetic which was modern but still inviting. The lushly carpeted flooring and the cosy beds really added to the lavish atmosphere as well.

The bathroom screamed decadence with gold marbled tiles set against the sleek black sink in front of our wide mirror. There was even a music function in the bathroom — something I’ve never seen before, which gives you the option of playing music in the shower (I mean, what else could we ask for?!)

The room also offered a scenic view of KL’s iconic Petronas Twin Towers, which was truly the icing on top of the cake.

Aside from the comforts we enjoyed within the hotel, we also loved that it was right next to KLCC (our favourite mall) and the Petronas Twin Towers, making it the perfect choice for those who want to explore the heart of the bustling city.

The hotel was also walking distance away from other shopping malls like Pavillion and Fahrenheit 88, and there was even a fully air-conditioned sheltered bridge to take us the hotel to these malls, so dealing with the humid climate was definitely not a problem.

At night, Andrea received a luxurious spa treatment courtesy of MO, to which she described as ‘the best massage ever’, which definitely says a lot. Traditional Malay urut was incorporated into the 2-hour treatment which served to warm up the muscles and ease any tension in the body.

Prior to the massage, the masseuse handed Andrea a survey form to get a better understanding of how she was feeling, and what treatment would suit her best. You can even opt for varying pressures during your massages to ensure maximum comfort and relaxation during the entire duration of the massage.

Upon entering the massage room, a pleasant scent of lemongrass and pandan greeted us as soothing instrumental music played in the dimly lit turquoise room, setting that spa mood we know and love. We got to sit in with Andrea as the masseuse performed a foot ritual on her which lasted for 10-15 minutes.

During the foot ritual, the lady rang a bell of 7 different metals, emitting 7 different sounds to clear one’s mind and renew one’s energy. As that was happening, Andrea also soaked her feet in a well-lathered wooden basin, generously embellished with magenta petals and pebbles at the base of the basin to provide more texture and vibrancy to the experience.

If you ever visit Kuala Lumpur for a work trip and are looking for something to help you relax and wind down after a long day, this spa treatment would perfect for you. Andrea mentioned that she already started planning her next massage after the first session because it helped with her back aches and pains—a feeling we all know too well!

Our taste buds were treated to a decadent dining experience under the stars on the 4th day of our trip. We got to enjoy an amazing alfresco-style barbeque dinner for 198RM per pax next to Mandarin Oriental’s pool, overlooking luscious greenery.

Guests could also opt to relax on the royal cabanas while they enjoy their meals, and there’s even a pagoda nearby where events can be held as well.

Our dinner started off with a large sharing bowl of organic lettuce (which was home-grown in their very own Organic Urban Garden), paired with slices of avocado, corn relish and mozzarella crumbles, to which Shilin described to have a pleasant zingy taste.

A wide array of meat selections such as salmon with an assortment of black pepper, garlic and lime zest sauces, grilled prawns with chermoula and whole slow roast rib eye to name a few, were also available. Other side dishes included mushroom stew, papas hornedas (a Portuguese stew of beans and meat), and baked potatoes with condiments, which complemented the meat perfectly.

Our stay came with complimentary access to the Club Lounge which also came with a wide array of benefits! The complete set of benefits at the lounge include the following:

  • Complimentary buffet breakfast, deli lunch, afternoon tea and evening cocktails
  • Complimentary use of the Club Business Centre and meeting rooms
  • Discreet, efficient and personalised check-in and check-out by dedicated Club personnel
  • Laundry, pressing and dry-cleaning
  • 20% savings for Spa Treatments at The Spa

Unfortunately, we only managed to try the buffet breakfast which was undoubtedly the highlight of our every morning. The breakfast served a good balance of Western and Asian dishes, and our personal favourite was definitely the congee which we ate every single day.

To maintain a sophisticated and professional atmosphere, children under 12 were not allowed to enter the lounge, which made it the perfect location for hosting meetings. The staff was also really quick in assisting us with our various requests, ensuring that we were fully comfortable and had everything we needed.

Bottom Line: Our luxury stay at Mandarin Oriental was an absolute treat. From the beautiful interiors, down to the 5-star amenities and the impeccable service of the staff members, it definitely provided us with the relaxing retreat we needed after long days of shopping and work!
