It’s easy to stick to the same makeup routine: brownish eyeshadows, a little black liner and nude lips. It’s simple, classic and super wearable. But this fall, it’s all about pushing boundaries of fashion and beauty to incorporate some colour into our makeup looks. From coloured eyeliners to bold lips, keep reading as we show you different ways to introduce colour into your makeup without looking over the top!

Prep Your Skin

Before we apply all that colour onto our faces, we have to start off by prepping our skin. The key to achieving flawless and long-lasting makeup isn’t solely about finding the best foundation or setting powder–the bigger secret lies in prepping your skin the right way! After all, we don’t want all that colour to melt off our faces mid-day.

Andrea’s makeup artist, Rick Yang recommends starting off your cleansed face with Dior’s One Essential City Defense SPF 50. We can’t stress enough the importance of applying sunscreen especially in Singapore where the UV rays are the strongest on our side of the equator.

Not only does this product protect your epidermis from environmental toxins, but it also doubles up as a great makeup base as well, delivering that youthful and radiant glow to your face!

After protecting your skin, Rick also recommends using Dior’s Airflash Radiance Mist Primer & Setting Spray. Inspired by backstage makeup techniques at Dior’s runway shows, this long-lasting spray adds to that radiant glow you’ve already built with your base, giving you the perfect healthy glow that’ll last all day!

Coloured Eyeliners

Eyeliner is such an important part of any makeup look, having the ability to make your eyes appear bigger and your lashes more voluminous and luscious. But when it comes to this part of the makeup routine, people also tend to opt for the usual black or brown shades that are a staple in any girl’s makeup bag.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good black liner, but it’s also fun to experiment with the coloured liners for a fun and trendy way to add a pop of colour onto your eye makeup!

We’re recently loving the Diorshow On Stage Liner which comes in a myriad of highly saturated colours from deep shades such as navy and rusty maroon to bright yellow or turquoise hues. Bella and Gigi Hadid have also been spotted rocking white cat eyes this season as a way to subtly work bold colours into your, and we’re totally into it!

Opting for a single bright colour on your lash line is a good way to start experimenting with colour, but if you’re willing to go all out, we recommend using two different complementary shades like blue and white or black and yellow for a high-impact party look.

Coloured Mascara

Coloured mascaras often have a bad rep for being too quirky and over the top but they can really serve to give you the illusion of thick and long lashes if you apply the correct colour. For most of us with brown or black eyes, navy blue or purple mascaras can really make a statement for your lashes and bring out the colour of your eyes.

We recommend NYX’s Colour Mascara because they have 8 vibrant shades for you to choose from. And while you can definitely build the mascara up for a full-on effect, simply applying a coat or two will give your eyes the right amount of pop it needs. For those trying to ease into this technicolour trend, we suggest layering the coloured mascara over your classic black one to add a subtle but fun tint to your lashes!

A Bold Lip

I don’t know about you but I’ve found myself stuck in a lipstick rut more often than I would like to. Sure, I’ve experimented with my go-to nudes, reds and berry hues but every now and then, I find myself being bored of the same old shades and wanting to step out of my comfort zone to give my lips the attention that they deserve.

Fenty Beauty’s Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in the shade Saw-C is the go-to fall lip colour that everyone needs–think Halloween Jack-O-Lantern Orange, but make it fashion. This product delivers the ultimate light-as-air texture that glides on creamy but stays on as a velvety matte finish, perfect for both daytime brunches or night time parties!

Alternatively, if you prefer a more shimmery and glossy look, Too Faced’s Metallic Sparkle Lipstick in the shade That Girl would be the perfect fall-holiday option! This full-coverage limited edition lipstick grants a multi-reflective glitter finish for a highly pigmented and sparkling payoff. You can pair this lipstick with a bronzy eye and some giant lashes to channel your inner autumnal queen.

Vibrant Cheeks

Your eyes and lips may be the star of the show for most vibrant makeup looks but they’re not the only place that you can introduce a little colour! Don’t be afraid to experiment with a bright cheek this season. We suggest trying out coral shades as they look great under the sun and they look great against Asian skintones.

Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Blush in the shade Luminous Flush is the perfect way to give your cheeks a healthy-looking glow. Unlike traditional blushes that tend to be flat, this product uses photoluminescent technology to add depth and dimension to your face, allowing your features to stand out and your cheekbones to pop.

We’re all about embracing the bright and bold this fall, and it’s time to seize the opportunity to come out of colour hibernation and explore the different ways to add some to your beauty routine!
