Sleek Frizz-Free Hairstyle

Lately, when it comes to my hair, I’ve been so into sleek hairdos, short crops (I keep going shorter!) and ashy-brown tones. To achieve this shade of brown, I had to bleach my hair once and to maintain the sleek tv-commercial-like straight hair, I have to expose my hair to a straightener daily – this takes a major toll on the appearance and “health” of my hair!

So now that I’ve gotten my shown you how I achieve my Cali Glow, I thought it was time to share with you guys how I care for my hair with a TRESemmé! With my non-stop travel, my hair has also been exposed to so many different climates that affect my hair condition, and TRESemmé’s deeply nourishing Keratin Smooth range has been helping me keep all of that under control. US hair brands are generally formulated to strengthen fine and/or brittle hair, which is perfect for me!

On top of that, Singapore’s hot and humid weather makes having photo-ready hair a real challenge. So in this article, I’ve decided to share with you guys how I battle frizzy, dry hair with a simple routine you can totally replicate at home! I’ll be featuring my top hair care picks from Guardian — specifically, top US-based hair care brands — in conjunction with Guardian’s Beauty Around The World campaign. I’ll also be sharing how I achieve my latest go-to sleek hairstyle that looks great at any occasion, so keep reading!

Shower Care

Of course, a good hair day starts in the shower. Treated hair has a tendency to have a grassy, brittle look even when you style it, and if you face this same problem, you need to start working Keratin products into your hair care routine! For those who aren’t too sure what Keratin is or does; it helps to rebuild the protein structure of damaged hair! Over time, it helps make your hair straighter, silkier and smoother.

You can work Keratin into your hair care routine with the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Anti-Frizz shampoo and conditioner! It’s a really convenient and easy way to treat your hair, and on top of that, it strengthens and protects your hair from environmental stressors! The 5-in-1 hair care range helps with smoothness, reducing frizz, detangling hair, adding shine, smoothing out hair and taming flyaways.

You know how you immediately know your hair is NOT going to turn out great when you use hotel-room conditioner? You don’t have to worry about that with this conditioner I’m recommending. Considering how I have major PTSD when it comes to conditioning bleached blonde hair, I think I’ve developed an acute pickiness when it comes to my conditioner. At once, you already know the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Anti-Frizz conditioner will give you smooth hair during your blowout once you’ve used it in the shower post-shampoo. This TRESemmé range has Argan Oil and Marula Oil listed as major ingredients because of their softening and moisturising properties – and Marula Oil even helps protect hair from UV damage!

Drying off

Another simple tip I have is to take the time to dry your hair with the cool setting of your hairdryer. This helps close up your hair cuticles, which makes your hair look shinier! This takes more time if you’re starting with very wet hair, so if you’re in a rush to get ready, you can do most of your drying on a moderate heat setting before blasting it with cool air at the very end.

Before you pick up your hairdryer or styling tools, always apply a heat protectant spray through your hair! I style my hair every day, so this is a vital step I never skip. Too much heat exposure will just dry and frizz your hair back up–even after you’ve treated it with product, so always protect your hair.

Before drying, apply the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protect Hair Spray from your roots to the ends (yes your scalp can burn too) to make sure my whole head is protected. This spray protects hair from temperatures up to 232°C while shielding your hair from the damaging effects of heat styling.

Sleek Styling

Getting sleek, straight hair at this point is pretty simple. I start by splitting my hair into one-inch sections, then take my straightener through my hair from root to tips, curling the straightener inwards once you approach the ends. Remember to be firm and fast with this! Apply pressure to really get your strands straight, but don’t leave the straightener on your hair for long to minimize heat damage.

To finish my look and give my hair a little shine, I usually warm some lightweight hair oil or serum in the palms of my hands by rubbing them together before running the product through my hair.
