How To Get That Cali Glow

I’ve spent most of the past few months on the road (whew!), and this time I’m writing to you guys from sunny California! My Cali adventures have never failed to inspire me creatively, and one of the things I love the most about the West Coast has to be the beautiful warm-toned sunsets.

Inspired by the warm California hues (think sunsets at Santa Monica, sandy sunny Palm Springs, and bright orange poppy fields at Lake Elsinore), I’ve created a subtle coral-toned beauty look in today’s post. Since I’m in the United States of America, I’ll be using some of my favourite US beauty brands as part of the Beauty Around The World campaign by Guardian!

Glowing Dewy Skin

Before I start applying my foundation, I always use a primer – this way, your foundation stays on longer and appears smoother! For today’s look, start off with Revlon’s YouthFX Fill + Blur primer. The primer comes with an applicator-head so you can apply the primer without the need for your fingers or a brush, and the formula leaves an immediate powdery satin texture on my skin!

The desert climate and low humidity in the Cali air have made my skin SO DRY. To keep my complexion looking healthy and radiant here’s sharing one of my beauty hacks: mix your choice of serum into your foundation before application! I keep my serum to foundation ratio at 30:70 ratio for a medium coverage base, if you prefer something sheer you could go 50-50 instead, and blend out with a sponge!

The moisturising properties of serum also adds to the dewy sheen that I’m looking to achieve with this look (remember: Cali GLOW). Use Palladio’s Build + Blend Foundation Drops – the foundation lets you customize your foundation shade easily, depending on the look you’re trying to achieve.

Use the flat foundation brush from the Real Techniques Essentials Set, available at Guardian.

3-in-1 Lip Tint

I try to pack as light as I can, so I look for products that can double (or triple) up in use instead! For this look, I’m using the Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tint in the shade 250, which can not only be used as a lip colour but as a blush and creamy eyeshadow too! The coral tones definitely bring out that sun-kissed Cali glow! If you are using the tint as a blusher and eyeshadow cream, just use your fingers to blend!

A Coral-hued lip tint that can triple up as a lipstick, blusher and eyeshadow base!

Smokey Liner Look

To complement the flushed coral shade of my shadow, I wanted to create a soft and subtle smokey liner look. To achieve this, I used Maybelline’s Line Tattoo Crayon Pen in dark brown along my upper waterline.

To make my eyes appear bigger and more almond-shaped, I start lining my lash line from the centre of my eyes, finishing with a cat-eye flick at the outer corners. To soften my liner, I blend it out softly with a brown shadow. For this, I dipped into the Maybelline 24k Nudes palette, but you can try other warm tones such as orange or pink as well!

MASCARA is so important for eye makeup, no eye look is complete without it – it instantly brightens up your eyes! Maybelline’s Magnum Volum’ Express Mascara has been one of my favourite Mascaras of all time – I was so bummed when I could not find it anywhere over the past year, but I’m so glad it’s back now in Guardian. This mascara has an instant volumising effect and captures each eyelash so well.

Final Touches

After tidying everything up, I go in with a light contour and highlight just to add definition to my face. For this, you can check out Revlon’s Photoready Insta-Sculpt palette! This palette was designed to be universally flattering for all skin tones while helping to blur and soften pores and imperfections as well.

To keep the look natural, I buff my contour shade into the hollows of my cheeks lightly with the Multi-Task Brush from the same Real Techniques brush set. To finish the look, I sweep the highlighter shade across the highest points of my face which are my cheekbones and my nose bridge.

I hope you enjoyed this quick makeup tutorial, and try it out for yourself! Guardian gets its products from tons of international destinations, and the US just happens to be one of them.
