With a long-standing reputation for producing revolutionary skincare through a synthesis of arts and science, Shiseido’s return to the cosmetic industry in 2018 was one to watch. In its latest launch, the brand unveils its Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Collection: a comprehensive range of complexion products powered by the cutting-edge Shiseido-developed technology, ActiveForce™.

Inspired by the rhythmic fluidity and lightness of dance, the collection aims to perfect the fusion between skincare and makeup. The ActiveForce™ technology combines active gels, time match powders and self-repairing gels into a high-performance formula that is responsive and in-tune with your skin, as well as the environment!

Here are my favourite picks from the impressive ensemble:

1. Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation, $74

SHI-5Buildable, durable yet traceless and weightless, this foundation is everything you could want in a base. With a well-balanced consistency and velvet-smooth texture, this incredibly blendable formula also allows for flexible coverage. Simply apply with fingers for that subtle good-skin-day look or layer with a brush for an effortless, full-coverage finish. Infused with a list of protective and complexion-boosting ingredients including antioxidant wild thyme extract and illuminating pearl powder (and SPF 35!), this foundation is pretty much an over-achieving all-rounder!

2. Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Cushion Compact, $75

While the liquid foundation comes in a sturdy (but less travel-friendly) glass bottle, the cushion foundation takes the same impressive formula and compacts it. It is also one ultra-slim compact, at just 1.5cm thick! Given how the foundation just melds into your skin, the compact offers easy streak-free application and touch-ups on the go. As a complete sucker for cushion foundations, this was definitely a winner for me. (*The rather porous cushion sponge needs only a light tap of the puff, or you might pick up too much product!)

3. Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Concealer, $46

A good concealer will always be one of my trustiest purse companions. They are truly SOS for unforeseen skin emergencies — like when a raging pimple pops out of absolutely nowhere! That said, this concealer is a solid contender for my next purse essential. Boosted by the same ActiveForce™ technology and Super Bio-hyaluronic acid, the light creamy formula applies butter-smooth. While not for extreme coverage, the buildable medium to full coverage adheres comfortably but tightly to your skin for an impeccable finish. Simply splendid for everyday wear!

4. Synchro Skin Invisible Silk Pressed Powder, $70

This colourless, micro-fine and superbly smooth pressed powder is made to insure and complement base makeup seamlessly. Crafted with Shiseido’s Responsive Sensory Technology and Smart Correcting Powder, the airy compact removes shine without dulling or over-mattifying for an enviably silky look. Besides, I think there’s something quite charming about pulling a sleek compact for that quick powder fix on-the-go; and with a thickness of just 1 cm this elegant compact will do just that. Swoon!

5. Hanatsubaki Hake Polishing Face Brush, $63

Now, I was seriously mesmerised by this brush. It reminded me of really good kueh, felt astonishingly soft, was terrifically dense and so comfortable to hold. Modelled after the traditional Japanese flat brush and Shiseido’s camellia flower inspired logo, the flexible contours of the Polishing Face Brush are designed to achieve a smooth, refined finish. Compatible with powders/liquids/creams and uncomplicated to master, this unique brush is one handy and exquisite addition to any makeup routine!

A brilliant blend between Shiseido’s Japanese heritage and stellar technology, the Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Collection returns Shiseido Makeup to its roots while simultaneously placing it at the forefront of innovative beauty. An exceptionally intelligent range that works with as well as for your skin, discover the full Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Collection at Shiseido counters islandwide!
