Here at the DC Edit, we have the wondrous luck to get to try many skincare products. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love trying products? This year, our top shelves definitely saw many beauty trends come and go, but every now and then, we meet a *gasp* Holy Grail product that lands a permanent spot on our shelves.

And so, now that 2019 is almost done and dusted, we at the DC edit present to you the skincare products that were just that good, that we couldn’t have possibly gotten through the year without them.

Andrea’s Pick – Chantecaille Bio Lifting Serum

This serum is like a bottle of anti-aging magic, which is especially important if you’re in your 20s – YES your 20s – because taking preventive steps while your skin is young really pays off in the long run (you’ll thank us in 10 years!).

While this packs a bit of a hefty price tag, if you are looking to make an investment in your skincare routine, this is the one. Its complex formulation of hexapeptides and stem cell extracts really help smoothen out fine lines and build collagen in your skin, while rejuvenating and soothing the skin by keeping it hydrated. TLDR, this is everything you need to keep your skin looking young and supple! Or as Andrea says, it really makes your skin go ‘WHOO! HYDRATION!’.

Steph’s Pick – Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel

Finding an effective solution for blemishes and acne is a problem borne by many a woman, even for us! And if these concerns sound familiar, then you need this in your life. Formulated with salicylic acid, and witch hazel among many things, all you need to do is to apply a thin layer on any of your blemishes, and this powerful clear gel will get right to work.

Did we mention that it works really fast too? Because it does! Pro tip from Steph: Because it’s clear, you can use it throughout the day too to really work at those blemishes even faster. You’re welcome!

Mel’s Pick – Krave Beauty Kale-Lalu-yAHA

Kale is a nutritional powerhouse not just in your diet, but for your skin too! Who knew? The people at Krave Beauty did, duh!

A cult beauty fave, the kale-lalu-yAHA (a bit of a mouthful, but the pros say you should pronounce it like hallelujah!) is a chemical exfoliant that has a fairly low percentage of glycolic acid (5.25%), which makes it so gentle that you could even use it every day. Meanwhile the use of dark, leafy greens mean that this is a bottle packed full of anti-oxidants and vitamins, which do so much to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

Melisa has eczema prone skin, and found the (say it with us, now) kale-lalu-yAHA to be very kind to even her sensitive skin, and that it really helped keep her skin clear in 2019.

Shilin’s Pick – Bioderma Sebium Pore Refiner

This product  is a real multi-tasker – you can use it as a primer, a moisturizer, a blemish treatment cream… and in all ways it does a bomb job.

From skincare heavyweight Bioderma, this multitasking product’s Fluidactiv patented complex works to regulate sebum quality and limits and treats the formation of any blemishes, tightens pores AND refines your skin texture. It also acts as an astringent with its inclusion of agaric acid, which helps to limit and control your facial oils while preventing pores from getting all clogged up. All of this means that it is perfect for use after cleansing, on its own, and even under makeup to help everything else go on smoother.

Tricia’s Pick – Fresh Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence

This was the year where I crossed into the threshold of my mid 20s, which made me really want to step up my skincare game and take my routine a little bit more seriously. Cue Fresh’s Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence.

If kombucha as a drink does wonders for your digestive system, this facial essence definitely does wonders for your skin (helps that I’m a total tea lady). My skin just drinks. this. up. as soon as I tap it on my face (I use my fingers because who needs a cotton pad?), and really helps any products I use after absorb into my skin. Since using this, I’ve found that not only does it leave me feeling very hydrated post-cleanse, but also smooths and evens it out. What’s even more important is that since we live in a bustling city, pollutants are all around us, and boy, are they BAD for our skin. The kombucha in this essence keeps these pollutants at bay, and fends off any aging they may cause our skin! Also, it smells stunning!

And there we have it, with the year wrapping up, here’s our little wrap up of products that helped tide us through yet another hectic year – the last year of the decade in fact! Meanwhile, we at the DC edit can’t wait for what new and exciting ingredients, trends and products the new year (and decade can you believe it??) will bring.

Till then!

Much love,
