There’s no in-between. It’s go big or go home for Sylvia Chan of Night Owl Cinematics when it comes to her makeup. Which, as she admits, is often done in the car (talk about stable hands!). In the first of our Get Ready With You (GRWY) series, we follow Sylvia’s super efficient everyday makeup fit for long, hectic shoot days and that #contentcreatorlife. She reveals her unusual contouring technique, a simple fix for chapped lips and other personal beauty hacks you need to know!

PS: But seriously, it’s “whatever works!”

Prepping Oily Skin

In place of moisturiser, use a light lotion/essence that will prep skin but keep oil at bay. Sylvia’s choice? The L’Oreal Revitalift Crystal Micro-Essence.

Creating An Ultra Long-Wear Base

There’s no doubt about it, shooting content can be an incredibly arduous process, including long hours spent on set. With no time for touch-ups, Sylvia’s go-to products for a super long-wear base are the Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation and Ultra HD Microfinishing Loose Powder.

(Psst! Watch our video with Sylvia to find out why she doesn’t believe in tapping off excess powder from her brushes!)

Combat Dry, Chapped Lips With This Product

If you suffer from perpetually dry, cracked lips, Sylvia feels you. Her winning tip? Using a lip mask like the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask instead of a lip balm for extra intense hydration.

Try This Unusual Contour Hack For Round Face Shapes

Instead of sculpting beneath her cheekbones, Sylvia applied the Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer from the top of her cheekbones to give the illusion of a narrower face. Also switch up the original Hoola with its lighter version, the Benefit Hoola Lite Matte Bronzer, for a less intense contour.

Sylvia’s tip: Using a fatter brush to contour helps your shading look more buffed out and natural, in half the time!

Multi-Tasking Must-Have: A Versatile Eyeshadow Palette

Sylvia’s favourite: Urban Decay’s Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette, with its mix of wearable neutrals and solid colours that can double up as blusher/eyebrow powder etc. For her cheeks, Sylvia used Still Shot from the palette as blush.

That’s Not All.

Find out which essential everyday product Sylvia (surprisingly) does not own, an ingenious trick to up your eyeliner game and more beauty shenanigans. Watch our fun GRWY video with Sylvia here for the full routine and final look!

Snoop the full makeup routines of our Get Ready With You (GRWY) guests, from their best hacks, to holy grails and brutally honest opinions — it’s the TMI we’ve been waiting for. Stay tuned!
