Stepping into Sephora can go two ways: feeling pumped and ready to zig zag through the endless rows of products or feeling incredibly overwhelmed by the sheer number of products. I happen to fall into the latter category and never quite know where to start, or which products to shell out my money for. To ease my mind I often turn to my friend, Joy Tan, who’s part of the Marketing Team of Sephora Singapore, for her recommendations. Who better to ask than those who know the store and its products the best, right? Ahead, find Joy’s personal favourites from Sephora, and why she swears by them.

“Besides bestsellers, I always look at what the brands stand for. For example, if they build products specifically for sensitive skin, or if they commit to being environmentally friendly right down to the ingredients and packaging. It makes me feel more assured when I use products from such brands knowing that they’ll be gentle to skin and kind to the environment. It gives me a reason to try new brands or products.” – Joy Tan

JOY'S SEPHORA FAVOURITES
PAT MCGRATH LABS LIP FETISH LIP BALM (SHADE: FLESH 3)
S$59

“I love the way this lip balm makes my lips feel and look with just one swipe—this shade in particular. It’s definitely a MLBB (my lips but better) shade that enhances the natural colour of my lips, removes any look of dryness and moisturises deeply.”

SHISEIDO WASO BEAUTY SLEEPING MASK
S$60

“This face mask, in my opinion, is extremely underrated; I don’t hear enough talk about it. It’s a great moisturising sleeping mask that I use thrice a week. I was worried about sleeping masks feeling too sticky, but this wasn’t an issue. It has a lightweight, gel-like texture that spreads and blends easily into my skin, making my skin look visibly more radiant the next morning. Also, it smells great and almost soothes me to sleep…perfect for a sleeping mask.”

DRUNK ELEPHANT B-HYDRA™ INTENSIVE HYDRATION SERUM
S$68

“This brand is a cult favourite for many out there and understandably so. I’ve tried a few products from Drunk Elephant but my favourite has got to be the B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Serum. I use it every night, mixed with a moisturiser for my face and neck and I do see a difference the next morning; my skin looks brighter with each application! I like all my skincare products to feel light on my skin and this is no different, it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin which is good especially in humid Singapore. It also doesn’t have much of a fragrance so this would be great if one doesn’t like strong fragrance in skincare products.”

PAI SKINCARE ROSEHIP BIOREGENERATE OIL
S$48

“Pai Skincare is a brand that prides itself in understanding and creating effective products for sensitive skin. Having acne-prone skin myself, I decided to try their highly raved product: Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil to understand what the excitement was all about. After about 1.5 weeks of regular use, I did notice that the appearance of my scars diminished (something I’m very happy about as I’ve been trying to find facial products that reduced the appearance of scarring), and it also helped with evening out my skin tone.”

BIOSSANCE SQUALENE + MARINE ALGAE EYE CREAM
S$81

“Biossance is all about vegan, nontoxic formulae and environmentally friendly packaging. I personally love and find myself wanting to support a brand that puts so much thought into how sustainable their products and processes are. Plus, their products work! My favourite from Biossance has to be their Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream. It has a melt-in texture that doesn’t feel too heavy on the skin, and provides a crease-free canvas for makeup so I can use it as a day and night eye cream.”

KRISTIN ESS WEIGHTLESS SHINE WORKING SERUM

“All Kristin Ess products have what they call a Kristin Ess Signature scent, which I am a big fan of. All products are also formulated with Zip-Up Technology™, which is a strengthening complex that helps with smoothing the appearance of damaged cuticles. That is an absolute need for coloured and frizzy hair like mine. A little goes a long way with this serum. I use a pump of this right after every hair wash and it helps to tame the frizz while retaining the natural volume in my hair.”

COCO & EVE LIKE A VIRGIN SUPER NOURISHING COCONUT & FIG HAIR MASQUE AND TANGLE TAMER SET
S$65

“My hair concerns have always been frizziness and dullness so having a hydrating hair masque that conditions from root to tip is essential. I use this thrice a week and leave it on for 10 minutes while I’m in the shower. It not only smells amazing but actually works for me: I have less problems combing through my hair with each use.”

CAUDALIE VINOPURE PURIFYING GEL CLEANSER
S$33

“This cleanser smells lovely and has a cooling effect on my skin. My skin leans towards the oily side, so using this cleanser helps with balancing oil-produce and calms any redness without stripping the natural oils and moisture my skin needs throughout the day.”

The next time you shop at Sephora, be sure to check out these products! And if you’re swamped with choices or unsure where to begin, try seeking advice from the staff on the floormore often than not, they’ve already tried the products you’re coveting and can help you narrow down on the best choice.
