I love the thought of furnishing or re-decorating a space, perhaps that’s why I tend to get “itchy fingers” every 3-4 months, and I start moving furniture around. If you are moving into your new home, or thinking of sprucing up your room, it’s probably the best time to shop for home furnishings and appliances with all the year-end deals approaching. Personally, I try to shop from various sites and brands as much as possible so my home or space does not look too “uniform”, here are some of my top furniture and furnishing picks! This post is written in collaboration with ShopUOB, so UOB Cardmembers, take note of the accompanying deals below!

1. Sift & Pick for Soft Furnishings:

Soft furnishings like a textured throw or a neutral-toned pillow case can really make any space that bit cosier. Be it for your bed, or your sofa in the living room, check out my picks from online marketplace Sift & Pick here:

Waffle Blanket in Ivory | Dark Beige Simple Linen Cushion | Fabric Basket

UOB Cardmembers Exclusive: Receive S$15 off with min. S$100 spend [Promo code: UOB15OFF1111 ] Valid from 1 to 11 Nov 2020.

2. Table Matters for Tableware:

Not all bowls and plates are born equal. I have preferences when it comes to tableware: a bowl specifically for instant noodles, bowls meant for Chinese rice dishes, plates meant for spice-heavy food, and plates for dessert. Seeing my collection of tableware all stacked together nicely reminds me of a homely Spanish or Portugese kitchen reminiscent of my travels. If you’re looking for tableware for your new home, or if you are looking to gift a statement plate to your friend, here are my top picks from Table Matters

For toast: Rose Sweet – Hand Painted 8 inch Scallop Lace Plate | For noodles: Blue Illusion – Ramen Bowl | For recipes passed down by mom: Crisscross Red – 6 inch Square Plate With Handle

UOB Cardmembers 11.11 Exclusive: Receive 30% off with min. S$30 spend [Promo code: 11UOB11] Valid from 1 to 11 Nov 2020.

3. KrisShop for Travel-Inspired Gifts:

We all like collecting items from our travels – they have a story to tell. Since overseas travel is not an option for the time being, you can get travel-inspired gifts for yourself, or friends. Transport yourself to a ryokan in Japan, or a resort getaway with the following picks. I picked these items for the sensorial experience they provide too – the year end calls for us to unwind, relax and practice self-love!

T Nishikawa – Gohon Sia Tokisa Teapot 250ml | Shozu Shikko Shokyuwan Dainichi – Sakura | Banyan Tree 8cm Thai Chamanard Travel Incense Stick Kit

UOB Cardmembers 11.11 Exclusive: Receive a free pair of Cathay Movie tickets (worth S$27) with min. S$200 spend [Promo code: MOVIE]

Exclusively for KrisFlyer UOB Credit and Debit Cardmembers: Get an additional S$20 rebate with min. S$200 spend and earn up to 7.9 KrisFlyer miles per S$1 spend. Valid till 30 Nov 2020, or while stocks last.

4. Taobao for Retro Furniture:

Sometimes, it’s tough finding furniture I specifically want in Singapore. When I do find it, it might be really costly, so I turn to Taobao! I’ve bought quite a few pieces of furniture from Taobao and I’ve hardly been disappointed. The quality is comparable to furniture shops in Singapore (because let’s face it, they do get their stocks from China too), shipping is not too expensive (approximately $40-80 for an armchair), and you’ll receive your item within 3-4 weeks! Here are some pieces that caught my eye on Taobao recently, you can use the “收藏夹” (‘Shou Cang Jia’) function in the Taobao app to save items you like, so it’s easy for you to keep track of pieces to purchase in the future.

Green Armchair | Round Circular Dining Table | Floor Lamp

UOB 11.11 Cardmembers Exclusive: Receive S$15 off with min. S$120 spend [Enter UOB cardnumber at payment page to apply the discount, limited redemptions] Valid on 11 Nov 2020 only.

5. Shopee for Home Essentials:

I turn to Shopee a lot – I get storage essentials like cardboard boxes, and stackable drawers; kitchen gadgets like a kitchen towel dispenser and fridge organiser; or even “store-room must haves” like a toolbox and foldable table. Shop from the “Support Local” tabs to receive your items faster!

Storage Drawer – Home Organizer Plastic Box | Portable Foldable Aluminium Table | Instant Heating Water Dispenser

UOB Cardmembers Exclusive: Receive S$20 off with min. S$180 spend. [Grab vouchers from shopee.sg/m/uob-1111] Valid on 11 Nov 2020 only.

UOB ONE Credit and Debit Cards Exclusive: Receive S$12 off with min. S$150 spend. [Grab vouchers from shopee.sg/m/uob-1111] Valid on 11 Nov 2020 only.

Shop at Shopee and enjoy up to 10% rebate with UOB One Credit Card or 3% rebate with UOB One Debit Card. You’ll also enjoy exclusive Shopee privileges like special discount on Double Double days, Super Voucher Packs, exclusive deals on S-mart and Super Brand Days as well as access to pre-launch products! T&Cs apply, visit  uob.com.sg/onecards for details.

Like I mentioned earlier, this is probably the best time of the year to think about furnishing or refreshing your space, you have the year-end deals, (maybe) more time on your hands, and a new year to prepare for. I have a weekly “weekend project” where I’ll pick and choose different segments of the house to spring clean and spruce up. (Last week was the storeroom, and I might dedicate this weekend to Imran’s study!). If organizing can seem daunting to you, try my “weekend project” method out, you’ll definitely feel rewarded after.

Happy shopping!
