Ahh, to be young and beautiful — skin that’s smooth and supple to the touch, the beaming radiance that’s reminiscent of youth. Who wouldn’t want that? While the youthful disposition might not be for keeps, the former is easily achievable with the help of some skincare.

I am one for instant gratification and quick fixes, however (I mean, who isn’t!), and my approach towards skincare is no different. In just a day or two, I expect to see a better version of me reflected in the mirror.

Revitalised Skin In Just A Week?

Luckily for us, skincare has evolved tremendously over the years so instant skin therapy no longer resides only in our dream. Naturally, I curated some of the most raved about instant anti-ageing products and treated myself to it in hopes of a grander skin.

My current skincare concerns: blemishes, blackheads, uneven skin texture, dark eye circle and puffiness.

Will I really be able to see a visible difference in a week? Read on to find out!

1. Dr Dennis Gross’ Alpha Beta ® Extra Strength Daily Peel, S$135

Anti-ageing-6

Targets: Skin imperfections such as uneven tone or textures, wrinkles and enlarged pores

At its simplest, chemical peels exfoliate your skin with a formulation of good acids and treat your skin with vitamins and antioxidants. Think of it as a 2-in-1 exfoliator and booster for your skin.

Dr Dennis Gross’ Alpha Beta ® Extra Strength Daily Peel is a godsend, especially if you wish to enjoy the exceptional benefits of a facial without the downtime and discomfort. This patented two-step anti-ageing AHA/BHA peel pad consists of a potent dose of 7 acids (such as our favourite glycolic acid, salicylic acid and lactic acid) plus antioxidant and vitamins, which is proven to clear and strengthen your skin.

Disclaimer: Although it’s marketed as a daily peel, I decided to alternate the days that I use this so as to not stress my skin out too much.

My Thoughts

It was my first time trying out a chemical face peel and I honestly did not know what to expect. In my mind, chemical peels are just fancy toners… right? How wrong I was. Even after just two days, I saw a significant improvement — my skin is more radiant, my pores are smaller, and it did treat my blemishes and reduce my acne scars.

Four peels later, my problem spots (chin and cheeks) aren’t dominated by pimples, and the state of my skin is just so much better than it has been in years. The whole experience had me gleaming (Figuratively and literally!). This has already gone on to have a dedicated spot in my skincare regime.

2. Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Dark Circle Reducing Vitamin C Eye Serum, S$75

Anti-ageing-5

Targets: Dark eye circles, puffy eyes and crow’s feet

Eye serums: Are they a necessity or just something we indulge in? To be honest, I’ve never seen the allure of eye serums and creams. That is until the day I was made aware that eye serums can help alleviate dark circles and puffiness (I can’t believe I only found out about this recently!).

The eye cream in focus? Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Dark Circle Reducing Vitamin C Eye Serum.

Formulated with 10% Pure Vitamin C, Tri-Peptide and Hyaluronic Acid, this potent eye serum is clinically-demonstrated to help decrease the appearance of dark circles, puffiness, lines and crow’s feet, all in just 7 days.

My Thoughts

Could this eye serum be my key to finally bidding adieu to puffy eyes and dark circles? After just day two of treating myself to this eye serum, once in the morning and once at night, I’ve got my answer. My eyes actually look less tired and my dark circles are lightly fading, which was something that I never thought was possible.

At the end of the week, my dark circles have reduced significantly and my eye bags aren’t as terrible. I also love that it is able to alleviate the puffiness of the eye almost immediately and I love massaging the serum into my eye area every morning to prepare me for the day ahead.

3. L’occitane En Provence’s Immortelle Reset Oil-in-Serum, S$95

Anti-ageing-3

Targets: Fine lines and wrinkles, dullness and uneven texture

L’occitane En Provence’s Immortelle Reset Oil-in-Serum promises skin that looks rested after just one night and revitalised by seven.

Its formula is akin to that of the fountain of youth — L’occitane En Provence’s very own patented oil extract which contains two times the antioxidant that’s in Vitamin E, Marjoram extract that helps reawaken the skin and Acmella Oleracea extract aka the natural alternative to Botox.

My Thoughts

I know beauty sleep is essential for good skin but that’s the one thing I really struggle with. Some nights, sleep doesn’t even find me at all. As such, I always look out for serums that can revitalise my fatigued skin. In fact, I would say that it is a must-have for my skincare routine. This serum has a slight hint of chrysanthemum scent, which I welcomed as it reminds me to relax and enjoy my skincare routine. My skin definitely felt hydrated and rested, even when I’m not, which I really appreciate!

I feel like the ingredients in the serum really helped keep my skin happy and healthy. My usual problem spots also stayed (mostly) clear and my skin feels well-rested the next day. Bliss!

4. Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream, S$95

Anti-ageing-4

Targets: Wrinkles, dull complexion, uneven skin tone and texture, loss of elasticity

When it comes to anti-ageing, prevention is always better than cure! While almost all skincare products do consist of anti-ageing ingredients (Yay!), it’s always good to incorporate one dedicated anti-ageing skincare product into your regime.

Enter Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream. It’s a supercharged 7-in-1 anti-ageing moisturiser that smooths, firms, lifts, evens tone, refine texture, boost radiance and hydrates. Its key ingredients include Phytomimetic Vitamin A which helps renew skin surface, Proxylane, Kiehl’s patented anti-ageing molecule that helps restore elasticity and Chaga Mushroom, that helps even skin tone and boost radiance.

My Thoughts

With Kiehl’s, a little goes a long way. The cream is more emollient than most which took me a bit to get used to. It feels ‘velvety’ on my skin and a little heavy, which some might not like, but I wasn’t that bothered. It felt really hydrating, and lasted throughout the night, which is what matters most to me! I sleep and work in an air-conditioned environment, so long-lasting hydration is what I need all my moisturiser to fulfil.

After just one week, I did see a visible difference – my skin’s smoother, more radiant and hydrated. As for the other anti-ageing properties, now’s just too soon to conclude but I’ve got high hopes for this!

While most good things don’t come easy, these cult-favourite skincare products sure prove that good skin doesn’t have to be one of them. Of course, my skin isn’t perfect but being able to see some tangible results made me more motivated to invest in skincare and to never skip out on my skincare routine again!

With love,
Priscilla
