It’s the most golden season of the year! We must admit that the Lunar New Year seems to bring many of our favourite things together — family, great company, an excess of pineapple tarts and of course, putting together some of our best looks to reel in the New Year! Ahead of the festive season, we’re back with another Style Guide for your pre-LNY clothes shopping frenzy. From reinvented classics to romantic numbers and when you’re feeling extra auspicious, here are 5 looks we’re loving this Lunar New Year!

For The Auspicious: Very Poppy

Lunar New Year is the time to take your brightest, most “Huat ah!” pieces out for a spin. For looking extra (but still low-key) auspicious while avoiding that cliche full red ensemble, we went for a vivid poppy pink number instead. A dropwaist adds extra laid-back vibes to balance out the bold and makes an always flattering, super LNY-feasting friendly fit. The easiest way to wear your brightest hue!

For extra spice (and prosperity), pop on a little red lip. M.A.C’s Luck Be Your Lady Powder Kiss Lipstick is a smokey brick-red that’s impossible to overdo and so wearable beyond LNY. You’ll probably want to keep tabs on the rest of M.A.C’s Moon Masterpiece Collection, a LNY 2021 exclusive. The series features MAC’s classic best-sellers in new fortune-boosting packaging, including the #Double Gleam Skinfinish with new fish-embossing and a limited edition blush duo with MAC’s favourite warm hues (#Melba + #Modern Mandarin)!

Moon Masterpiece Extra Dimension Skinfinish #Double Gleam, S$62
Moon Masterpiece Eyeshadow x 9 Palette #Sea Of Plenty, S$80
Moon Masterpiece Powder Kiss Lipstick #Playing Koi, S$36
Moon Masterpiece Powder Kiss Lipstick #Luck Be A Lady, S$36

For Something Romantic: A Rolling Spring

A look to fall in love with! Oversized puffed sleeves have been a roaring trend lately. If you haven’t included some poof in your wardrobe, LNY might be a good time to experiment with this romantic style. (Psst: See more from the puffed sleeves trend here!) With a relaxed smocked fit and tiered detail (another style trend), we like this number for its for extra dreamy quality.  We can imagine this whimsical piece being great for prancing about and very timeless. In fact, we might pull this one for Valentine’s too! Tie the look together with a petite satchel in neutral deep nude — a simple twist lock adds vintage vibes, but is otherwise perfectly ostentatious.

Another way we’re sprucing up our ensembles this LNY is of course, with the classic LNY manicure. But make it extra fuss-free, fumes-free and wallet-friendly. The Oriental Palette Nail Wraps from Nodspark x Papercranes Design has a bit of every springtime abstract on a clear base for an ultra-neat, mod look.

On Mabel:

For Catching The Spring Wind: Breezy & Blithe

We love neutrals because of how perennial they are. For a dreamy, breezy get up, we like this flowy tent midi in pure beige with its easy, gentle lines. Extra brownie (or should we say pineapple tart) points because this piece will also catch the wind as you twirl away for that mandatory LNY OOTD. Complete the look with a petite bag that will hold all your essentials and ang baos — we went with a pleated dumpling purse to match the folds of the dress. Easily the most effortless look of the lot, you can’t go wrong with this one.

On Mabel:

For A Classic Twist: Applique Chic

A contemporary spin on the classic cheongsam silhouette, this two-piece shorts ensemble is refreshingly modern and a sure charmer. The high neck and lace overlay exudes subtle traditional vibes for something still elegant and feminine. But we think the tailored fit is key: structured lines add a hint of edginess without compromising on formality. Wear it in an invigorating sky blue for something unique and exquisitely spring!

On Mabel:

For A Rewind: Shirred & Ditsy

If you’re at the stage where you would rather have your relatives under guess your age, we think this look might be magic. A shirred bodice and ruffle trimming on the straps and hem remind us of more girlish sundresses, for an endlessly youthful cut. We like how the speckled red print adds some fun and festive flair without being attention grabbing, to keep the effortlessness of this airy midi. ‘Amp up the carefree vibes with a handkerchief scarf on your purse that’ll instantly make this look more dressy and extra cheery! Psst: If crimson purses don’t have a practical place in your wardrobe, a handkerchief scarf can be a terrifically easy way to jazz up your good ‘ol bag.
