It’s back! Introducing the second edition of our #100PLUSZeroXDreaChong cups — this time in a classic cold cup version and a new collapsible bottle. To mark the launch with 100PLUS, we decided to take it back to where everything began and the bedrock of Andrea’s inspiration: pottery.

Recap: Pottery In Progress

So with the balmy afternoon sun, the enlivening space of ves.studio and in good company (our media friends as well as you, our DC community), we set out to translate our cups into ceramic art.

Under the guidance of Manhang (@pottobelle) and with Jeanette (@adrienneceramics) assisting, everyone got to try their hand at creating two ceramic pieces, with the option of taking one home.

Manhang made everything look mesmerisingly (see: deceptively) easy in her demonstration, but trust us when we say it’s really not! From kneading, throwing and moulding, the process turned out to be a surprisingly delicate, tedious and physically exacting task. Who knew you’d need to engage your core to keep your clay centered?

Beginning with the rather vigorous job of removing air pockets in our clay — including a final throw down “like a turd” — we descended into the more quiet and careful task of working the potter’s wheel.

Keeping centered, controlling speed, building without breaking…it was a true lesson in patience, balance and the art of poise.
